What can I do when the Holidays cause a mess?

ShareThis
Heavens Best Carpet Cleaning of Denver answers questions all the time by phone, to help any customer, with holiday cleaning problems. Whether it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, or Easter someone in the family/friends is bound to have a accident. Small spills and splashes on carpet may not come out but here are some simple tips to try before having Heaven’s Best come out.

Here are some common mistakes to avoid when treating a problem:
• Do not over-saturate the stain with cleaning products. This just makes a small spot larger.
• Do not rub the carpet. This can cause damage to the texture of the carpet.
• Do not put water on a dry soil. Rather, make sure to vacuum it first.

Now for some simple cleaning solutions:
1. First, remove as much stain material as possible. If it is dry, vacuum up as much as you can. If it is semi-solid, scrape or scoop it up with a spoon or dull knife. If it is liquid, blot it up.
2. Next, blot the stain with cool water, and then blot dry.
3. If you have your Heaven’s Best cleaner handy you can use it or try making FOAM using a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap in a cup of tepid water. Apply only the FOAM, not the water, with a sponge or soft brush to the stained area in a wiping motion going toward the center of the spot. If you start in the center with circular motions, the stain will spread.
4. Finally, blot with cool water, then blot dry.

In addition to stains, parties mean more foot traffic in your home. As people come and go during the holidays, you will likely notice extra soil on carpets and other flooring. Frequent vacuuming will help with this and is also a great way to keep the air in your home clean. A thorough vacuuming can remove most particulates in carpet, and this can also make carpet a good option even for allergy sufferers. This is especially true during the long months of winter when we spend most of our time indoors.

This info can also be found on the CRI website.

Commercial Carpet Preventive Measures

ShareThis
Heaven's Best carpet cleaning of Denver is regularly asked about commercial carpet preventive measures between regular maintenance cleanings.

1. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum!!! This is the best preventative measure for all carpet commercial, and residential. Most soiling of carpet is due to solid particulates (sand, dust, pollen, etc) brought in from the outside world. Vacuuming on a regular time table is the key. The average steps it takes to remove these items from a persons shoes is 20 steps, so more attention should be  done in these areas. Once the 20 step rule becomes over saturated with soil well lets just say it travels farther into you place of business, then farther, then farther. Over saturation of solid particulates causes crushing of the fibers, and  scratches to the fibers, kind of like the windshield of a car being pitted over time, this will cause the fibers to become dull, fraid, unsightly and need replacement faster. For a idea of vacuum scheduling and cleaning visit here. Vacuum maintenance is also very important. If the vacuum doesn't work it can't clean. Taking it to a local vacuum store to have it serviced will dependent on usage, or a in house maintenance person. If the beater bar is full of hair it loses suction and can't do the job.

2. Walk off mats that are regularly maintained. Many companies offer a pick up and drop off service at a low price to make sure the above issues are better addressed. During the rain and snow season walk off mats can be beneficial, but be careful of areas getting over saturated then causing delamination of the carpet below. Try to put these mats in a area to dry quickly while hours of business are the slowest, or have a back up so that you can change mats out when needed.

3. Spot cleaning between regular maintenance cleaning. Have you ever had your maintenance crew clean a spot only to have it get bigger, then clean it again and now it's even bigger? This is typically due to residue being left in the carpet and attracting soil, well that is what carpet cleaning solution is made to do grab soil so it can be removed. This happens because of improper rinsing, or could also be due to wicking. Their is not a one almighty spot cleaning solution on the market, if their was every professional carpet cleaner would be using it. Sometimes it necessary to use different methods, multiple methods, or even just plain water on a white towel. Click here for a chart that can be printed and put in the maintenance room and used for different cleaning needs.

4. A regular professional maintenance cleaning schedule to match your environment needs before over saturation, causing damage, happens.

Vacuuming Agitates Allergies?

ShareThis
Heaven's Best carpet cleaning of Denver, Co receives a lot of questions from allergie sufferers in the home, work place, or commercial inviroment.

Vacuuming may be releasing more dust, dander, and bacteria than it's removing.
A study done by researchers in Australia, shows that some vacuums will actually pull the particles in your carpet out and then release them into the air, rather than capturing most of them in the vacuum. The study was done with several vacuums that ranged in brand and age. The vacuums that released the most dust and bacteria back into the air were the older vacuums and the cheaper models.
However, all the vacuums released some dust/bacteria particles back into the air; it's just that the newer ones did better at limiting the amount that was released.
This doesn't mean it's time to stop vacuuming. If you're happy with your carpet, vacuuming several times a week is one of the best things you can do to reduce air borne particles and improve indoor air quality. There are other things you can do as well. This includes cleaning under and behind furniture, washing throw rugs in hot water, and if your allergies are severe, replacing the carpet with wood floors. As a note on hardwood floors, this doesn't mean there will be less dust in the room, it will just be easier to remove the dust. Hardwood floors though have to be swept more often than carpet needs to be vacuumed to keep the dust at an acceptable level for allergy sufferers.  Carpet does hold dust, whereas hardwood will release dust into the air when hit by air from the wind or even just people walking by.
So, if you have an older or cheaper vacuum, it may be time to upgrade to improve your allergies and indoor air quality. What you buy can be a personal preference, but according to the study, vacuums without a HEPA filter performed almost as well as ones with a HEPA filter.

The best ways to keep office buildings clean

ShareThis
Does it feel like the costs of keeping your commercial office building clean keep growing and growing?  Heaven's Best of Denver hears this often.  Amazingly, one way to keep costs down is actually to have your place cleaned more often on a maintenance program.  Maintenance programs (an example being the PDIR method as explained in the link below) are great ways to keep costs down.  Methods like this will address the cause of the soils and how to limit them infiltrating your facility, and also how to remove them before they cause damage.  Soils from outside (with sand being the main culprit) brought in will scratch carpet and hard surfaces.  These buildup of sand can be the equivalent of taking 120 grit sandpaper and rubbing it on the surfaces.  Addressing areas with Walk off mats and frequent sweeping and vacuuming are a few simple ways to help remove this sand before it damages anything.  To find out more about programs like this, feel free to give Heaven's Best of Denver a call and we will be happy to walk you through options for your building.  In most cases it is much easier, and less costly, to maintain a certain level of appearance throughout the year on a maintainenance program than it is to do a once a year restorative cleaning.

Green carpet cleaning versus Green Carpet Cleaning Company

ShareThis
There are a lot of cleaning companies anymore that provide "green cleaning" and Heaven's Best Denver is one of them.  When it comes to "green" though, some companies are much greener than others.  When a company advertises green or environmentally friendly/safe cleaning, most of the time they are just referring to the cleaning solution they use.  While this is good, there are many other ways a company can be green.  Here are some of the steps Heaven's Best Denver is doing to be a GREEN COMPANY as opposed to just a green cleaner:
1. Environmentally Friendly cleaning solution.
2. Most of our cleaning products come in concentrate form when possible to greatly limit shipping weights, which saves the amount of fuel needed to ship.
3. Our standard low moisture cleaning process uses approximately 1/10 the water that most steam cleaners would use on the same job.
4. All of our equipment runs off electricity, which is a more efficient means of power. Also, this means we don't have a vehicle engine running while we clean belching out exhaust and making noise at your home or office.
5. As much as possible, Heaven's Best Denver has gone to a paperless environment with electronic invoices that can be emailed instead of using paper.

When you are looking for a green cleaning company that does an outstanding job and has customer service 2nd to none, please don't forget to keep us in mind as we are about as green as they come.

Spring is a great time for tile and grout cleaning in Denver.

ShareThis
Tile and grout cleaning often gets ignored in homes and businesses.  Heaven's Best of Denver sees most tile and grout getting a quick mopping, often with dirty water, and that is it.  While this can do a great job of removing surface soils, this will not get out the dirt and foreign soils that have worked their way into the cracks/crevices/pores of the tile and grout.  One such damaging item can be the ice melt and salt that is tracked in throughout the winter months.  Although this salt won't necessarily hurt most types of tile, other than possibly scratching it, it does do harm to concrete, which is basically what your grout is made of.  Getting this salt cleaned away in the spring will help to greatly extend the life of your grout for years to come.
